8.0.0d: AWARE of the churches of Jesus, the GODHEAD BODILY ( pt. 4 ) Ephesians 1:1

Ephesians chapter 1;

The Election

and Adoption of Saints

by The TRIUNE GODHEAD.

Ephesians 1:1  “ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the Will of God,

 to the saints which are at Ephesus,

and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:”

1.      Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the Will of God;

by the Will of God, also expresses, “through the Will of God”:

Paul was called to the apostleship through that same “Will”

which originated Jesus churches, by the Authority of God.

( Ephesians 1:5  He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His Pleasure and Will—

 Ephesians 1:9 And He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ,

Ephesians 1:11 ; In Him we were also chosen, having been Predestined according to the Plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the Purpose of His Will,

 & compare Galatians 1:4

Who gave Himself for our sins to Rescue us from the present evil age, according to the Will of our God and Father.

“…to the saints which are at Ephesus…”

to the saints . . . and to the faithful =

The same persons are referred to by both designations,

as the Greek proves:

 “to those who are saints, and faithful in Christ Jesus.”

 The sanctification by God is here put before man’s faith.

THE TWO ASPECTS of SALVATION are PRESENTED, here:

FIRST IN SALVATION:

God’s Grace in the first instance sanctifying us,

(that is, setting us apart in His Eternal Purposes as holy to Himself);

SECOND IN SALVATION:

“ and our faith, by God’s gift, laying hold of salvation”

( 2 Thessalonians 2:13:

But we ought always to thank God for you,

 brothers loved by the Lord,”

( FIRST IN SALVATION: God CHOOSES )

 “because from the beginning God chose you to be saved

 through the sanctifying work of the Spirit”

 ( SECOND IN SALVATION: God GIVES “Belief” )

 “and through belief in the truth.”

 1 Peter 1:2:

( FIRST IN SALVATION: God CHOOSES )

“Who have been chosen according

 to the foreknowledge of God the Father,”

( SECOND IN SALVATION: God GIVES “Belief” )

“through the sanctifying work of the Spirit,

for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

To the saints which are at Ephesus;

The persons residing there, to whom the epistle is written,

are described by their character, as “saints”; having been separated by the Grace of God the Father in Eternal Election;

They were “saints” whose sins were expiated

by the Blood and Sacrifice of Jesus Christ;

and to Whom JESUS Himself was Made Sanctification;

and these saints in Ephesus were internally Sanctified by the Spirit of God,

 and lived holy lives; whether officers of the church, or private members,

whether rich or poor, bond or free, strong or weak believers,

or of greater or lesser abilities.

And to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

who were Saved saints who’s Souls were POSITIONALLY “ in Jesus Christ”,

by God Electing them by His Eternal Giving Grace,

AND these saints were openly and manifestly “in Jesus”,

 through Converting Grace; and they lived and “abode in Him” as branches in the vine; they continued constantly devoted to Jesus and His Work

and persevered in faith and holiness; and were faithful to Worship the Lord and give special attention to the Cause and Interests of Jesus Christ, and to Jesus’ Gospel and Ordinances;

These individual saved saints were hearty and sincere in the profession of their faith in Jesus Christ, and their love to Him and His concerns:

These people were them, “that believe in Jesus Christ”; with all their hearts, to the saving of their souls; who look to Him, worship Him, rely upon Him, and trust in Him for life and salvation, and who certainly were saved;

Of such the Lord’s church at Ephesus consisted, to whom this epistle was written.
