0.0.4 ALARM #16: Deuteronomy 8:2; “And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God Led thee.”

Section 4—Deuteronomy 8:2.

And thou shalt remember

all the way which

the Lord thy God led thee

these forty years in the wilderness,

to humble thee, and to prove thee,

to know what was in thine heart,

whether thou wouldest

keep his commandments or no.

Cause of God and Truth.pdf

It is said, that it is evident

from this and other passages of Scripture,

that the state of man in this world,

is a state of trial or probation.

It will be proper therefore

to make the following inquiries:

I. What this state of probation is,

or what is meant by it.

1. This state of trial, or ‘probation’,

is not a trial of men’s graces,

as faith, patience, etc.,

by afflictive dispensations of Providence;

for men in general are not in such a state,

since all men have not grace to be tried;

nor is the state of every man

an afflicted one in this life:

this is a state peculiar to the people of God,

and to them only when converted:

for before conversion

they have no graces to be tried;

and with some of them,

this state is very short,

and so far from being the state of man

whilst in this world;

and yet, as will be seen

hereafter, the proof of the state of probation

pretty much depends on passages of Scripture

which relate to the exercise

of the graces of the saints

by afflictions, temptations, etc.

2. This state of trial, if I understand it right,

is of man’s obedience

and conduct towards God during his life;

according to which

conduct and behavior God acts towards him,

both in this and the other world;

his state, as to happiness or misery,

being yet unfixed:

so that whilst this state lasts,

it is uncertain whether he

will be saved or lost.

II. What proof is given

of the state of man in this world,

being such a one.

1. All those scriptures are urged,

which speak of God’s proving

the children of Israel when in the wilderness,

and in their own land,

whether they would walk in his statutes,

and keep his commandments, or no;

such as Exodus 16:4, Exodus 20:20;

Deuteronomy 8:2, and 13:3;

Judges 2:2l, 22, and 3:1, 4.

It ought to be observed,

that these people were under a theocracy,

or the immediate government of God as their King,

who gave them laws,

according to which they should act;

to which they readily promised a cheerful

and universal obedience;

on condition of which obedience,

they were to enjoy, and continue in their

enjoyment of the land of Canaan.

Therefore, before they entered

into the land, and when in it,

God was pleased to try them,

sometimes in one way, and sometimes in another,

whether they would yield that obedience to his commands

which he required,

and abide by the promises

which they themselves had made,

or no;

all which he did not for his own sake,

who knows all things,

but that their obedience

or disobedience might be made manifest,

and he be justified in all his dealings with them.

This trial of their obedience

was not in order to their salvation

in another world, but

to their temporal good in this;

Because such of them as were saved

with an everlasting salvation,

were saved not by their obedience

to the commands of God,

but by the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Besides, the scriptures produced,

speak only of the people of Israel,

and of what was their state

and case as a politic body,

under the immediate government of God,

in a certain period of time;

and not of all mankind;

and so fall abundantly short

of proving that the state of man in this world,

is such a state of

probation as before described.

2. This is attempted to be proved from all those places in which

God is said to try men, their works and graces, by afflictions,

persecutions, temptations, and the like; as 1 Corinthians 3:13; 2

Corinthians 3:2; 1 Peter 1:7, and 4:12; James 1:3; Revelation

2:10, and 3:10; Psalm 66:10; Daniel 11:35, and 12:10; Zechariah

13:9. What I have said in answer to the first query, is a sufficient

reply to what is alleged from these passages; since these only

speak of the saints, and of the trial of their grace, who only have

grace to be tried, and that not in order to fix and settle the affair of

their salvation; nor are these trials mere experiments of the truth

and constancy of their graces: but are also designed for the

further exercise and increase of them; the issue of which is their

own spiritual good, and God’s glory. Hence it must follow that

these scriptures are insufficient proofs of every man’s being in a

state of probation, and in order to everlasting happiness or

misery.

3. This is said to be evident from all the promises and threats

recorded in the Scripture, to engage all men to repent, and turn to

God; for it is added, no such thing is or can reasonably be offered

to them who are already in a fixed state either of happiness or

misery. To which I reply, that the promises and threats recorded

in the Scripture, which relate to men’s spiritual and eternal good,

may be reduced to and comprehended in these words, He that

believeth, and is baptized, shall be saved; he that believeth not,

shall be damned; which was the substance of the gospel ministry

the apostles had in commission from Christ to fulfill, and which

might be exercised fully and thoroughly, supposing a fixed state of

happiness or misery; since such a ministry might be, and is used,

through the grace of God, to bring those who are designed for

happiness, into a state of grace meet for the same; and to leave

others inexcusable, to discover the more the corruption and

vitiosity of their nature, and so to justify the righteous proceedings

of God against them.

4. This is argued for from all the exhortations of the holy Scripture

to men to watch and pray, that they enter not and are not led into

temptation, and from such scriptures which suppose men to be in

danger by temptation; the passages referred to are, Matthew

6:13, and Matthew 26:41; Luke 8:13; 1 Thessalonians 3:5; which

only regard the saints, or such who profess to be so, and not all

mankind. Besides, if God has put all men into a state of probation,

and this designed by temptation, how should any watch and pray

not to enter or be led into it? Moreover, this state of probation, is

either a good one, or a bad one; if a good one, why should men

watch and pray against it? if a bad one, can it be reasonably

supposed, that God has put men into it, in order to their

everlasting good? and why then should it be contended for?

5. This is said to be evident from the temptations of Satan, who

goes about continually seeking whom he may devour; and it is

added, to what end should he tempt, or endeavor to destroy the

elect, or strive to hinder the progress of the gospel, or the

conversion of any man; when supposing a fixed state by the

decrees of God, and a divine unfrustrable operation on the hearts

of men, he must know that his labor will certainly be in vain? To

which I answer, that Satan has not the book of life in his keeping;

nor does he know who are and who are not the elect of God, until

this appears by the unfrustrable operation of God’s grace on their

hearts, and it may be, not even then: so that it is no wonder that

he tempts, strives, and endeavors to hinder the success of the

gospel in their conversion, and to destroy them; and when he

does know who they are, endeavors to distress them by his

temptations, though he cannot destroy; and in ten thousand

instances will show his malice, when he cannot show his power.

Besides, the text referred to in 1 Peter 5:8, carries in the sense of

it the doctrine of a fixed state; when it supposes that there are

some whom Satan may devour, and leaves a plain intimation that

there are others whom he may not and cannot devour; who are

the sheep of Christ, and being in his hands, neither man nor devil

will ever be able to pluck from thence. This is the sum of the proof

offered in favor of this notion, by a celebrated writer, which how

pertinent it is, must be left to the consideration of others.

III. What reason there is to conclude that the state of man in this

world is not such a state.

1. Angels and man both, have been in a state of probation

already, in which their free-will, and power to obey the commands

of God, have been sufficiently tried; which trial has issued in the

fall and ruin of a large number of angels, and of the whole race of

mankind: and therefore it is not reasonable to suppose that God

would put man into such a state again; but rather provide in

another way for the good of those he designed to bring to

everlasting happiness.

2. If men were in a state of probation, they ought to be on equal

ground, enjoying equal privileges and advantages; whereas this is

not the case; some have only the dim light and weak law of

nature, whilst others enjoy the gospel revelation; and of these

some have larger, and others lesser, means of grace, light, and

knowledge; some have the grace of God itself bestowed upon

them, others have it not. Now were all men in such a state of

probation as is pleaded for, is it reasonable to suppose that there

would be such an inequality among them?

3. This state of probation, which renders salvation precarious and

uncertain, is contrary to God’s foreknowledge and decree of

election; for God, according to his foreknowledge, has chosen

and predestinated a certain number of men to eternal life and

salvation, by which their state is fixed, and their salvation sure, for

the purpose of God according to election shall stand. Whom he

did foreknow, he also did predestinate; whom he did predestinate,

them he also called; and whom he called, them he also justified;

and whom he justified, them he also glorified

(Rom. 9:11; 8:29, 30).

4. This notion puts man’s salvation on the foot of his obedience

and works, contrary to the Scriptures, to the merits of Christ, and

to the grace of God; it ascribes more to the free-will of man than

to the free grace of God, and lays a foundation for boasting in the

creature.

5. Such a state of probation is contrary to all those scriptures

which represent the saints to be now in a saved state, and as

having everlasting life; such as Ephesians 2:8, John 5:24, and

John 6:47. In a word, it destroys the doctrine of assurance, and

leaves the saints themselves in a most uncomfortable condition,

because it leaves them in a most precarious, unsettled, yea,

dangerous one.

The flesh of men’s minds

are weak and blind in pathetic

SHORTSIGHTEDNESS,

to “think” that these expressions,

are thought to imply,

that God Gives to all men

Sufficient Grace for Conversion,

to militate against the necessity

of the Unfrustrable

Operation of His Grace

0.3c.III.1

 Admitting that

the Saving Work of Conversion

is here Wished for;

such a Wish does not necessarily suppose

that Sufficient Grace for that Work

either was or would be Given;

and if the thing Wished for was Effected,

it does not follow from hence,

that this was not Performed

by the unfrustrable

Operation of God’s Grace.

0.3c.III.2

Allowing that this Grace,

an heart to Fear the Lord,

and all that is requisite to it,

were given to the Israelites;

it ought not to be concluded from hence,

that all men have the same,

or that God Wishes the same to all men.

0.3c.III.3

We are not to imagine

that such Velleities and Wishes

are strictly and properly in God;

Who here Speaks,

as R. Aben Ezra observes,

Mda ygb zwvlk,

by an anthropopathy,

after the manner of men;

such Desires are ascribed to Him

in the same way

as human passions and affections are;

as anger, grief, repentance, and the like:

nor do such Wishes and Desires Declare

either what God Does or Will Do;

but what He Approves of,

and is Grateful to Him;

as are an heart to Fear Him,

and a Constant and

Universal Obedience

to His Commandments.

0.3c.IV

The words are so rendered by some,

as that they express

no Wish or Desire in God,

but rather what was to be desired

by the Israelites themselves;

so the Arabic version,

it should be wished for by them,

that such an heart would continue in them;

that is, such an heart

as they professed to have in verse 27,

when they said to Moses,

“Go thou near,

and hear all that the Lord our God shall Say;

and speak thou unto us

all that the Lord our God shall Speak unto thee,

and we will hear it, and do it.”

The Lord takes Notice of this Declaration,

in verse 28:

I have Heard, says He,

the voice of the words of this people,

they have well said all that they have spoken;

and then adds, according to this version,

that a continuance of such a heart

to hear and do,

should be very desirable by them.

Moreover, the words zty ym,

may be rendered as they are by the Septuagint,

tisdwsei, who will give?

and so be considered as an inquiry,

as Dr. Whitby himself says

who will give them this heart?

they could not give it themselves:

no creature could give it them;

only God could Give them such a heart as this.

And perhaps this mode of expression

may be used on purpose

to convince them of their want of such an one,

and that God only could Give it to them;

and therefore they should apply to Him for it,

and not presume, as they seemed to do,

to hearken to His commandments,

and obey them in their own strength,

and without the assistance of His grace.

Or,

0.3c.

These words may be considered

as an upbraiding of these people

with the want of an heart to fear the Lord,

and with want of ability,

to keep all his commandments,

and that always,

notwithstanding the vain boasts

and empty resolutions

they had just now made.

In the same manner

are we to consider other pathetic expressions

of the like nature;

such as Deuteronomy 32:28, 29

and Psalm 81:11-13.

3.0.10: What are the Seven Spirits of God ?

And the Spirit of the Lord

Will Rest on Him

the spirit of wisdom and understanding;

the spirit of counsel and might;

the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord;

Isaiah 11:1And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse,
&c.] By which is meant, not Hezekiah, as R. Moses F15 the priest, and others, since he was now born, and must be at least ten or twelve years of age; but the Messiah, as both the text and context show, and as is owned by many Jewish writers F16, ancient and modern: and he is called a “rod”, either because of his unpromising appearance, arising “out of the stem of Jesse”; from him, in the line of David, when that family was like a tree cut down, and its stump only left in the ground, which was the case when Jesus was born of it: Jesse’s family was at first but a mean and obscure one; it became very illustrious in David’s time, and in some following reigns; from the Babylonish captivity, till the time of Christ, it was very low; and at the birth of Christ was low indeed, his supposed father being a carpenter, and his real mother Mary a poor virgin, dwelling at Nazareth; and it seemed very unlikely, under these circumstances, that he should be the King Messiah, and be so great as was foretold he should; and have that power, authority, and wisdom he had; and do such mighty works as he did; and especially be the author of eternal salvation; and bring forth such fruits, and be the cause of such blessings of grace, as he was: or else because of his kingly power and majesty, the rod or branch being put for a sceptre, and so a symbol of that; to which the Targum agrees, paraphrasing the words thus,

“and a King shall come forth from the sons of Jesse:”

and the sense is, that though Jesse’s or David’s family should be brought so very low as to be as the stem or stump of a tree, without a body, branches, leaves, and fruit; yet from thence should arise a mighty King, even the King Messiah, who is spoken of by so many august names and titles, ( Isaiah 9:6 ) and this is observed for the comfort of the people of Israel, when distressed by the Assyrians, as in the preceding chapter ( Isaiah 10:1-34 ) ; when those high ones, comparable to the loftiest cedars in Lebanon, and to the tallest trees in the forest, should be hewn down, a rod should come out of Jesse’s stem, which should rise higher, and spread more than ever they did:and a branch shall grow out of his roots;
the roots of Jesse, out of his family, compared to the stump of a tree; meaning either his ancestors, as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Boaz, and Obed; or his posterity, as David, Joseph, and Mary; and so the Targum,

“and the Messiah shall be anointed (or exalted) from his children’s children.”

The branch is a well known name of the Messiah; (See Gill on Isaiah 4:2) the word Netzer, here used, is the name of the city of Nazareth F17; which perhaps was so called, from the trees, plants, and grass, which grew here; and so our Lord’s dwelling here fulfilled a prophecy, that he should be called a Nazarene; or an inhabitant of Netzer, ( Matthew 2:23 ) . The Jews F18 speak of one Ben Netzer, who they say was a robber, took cities, and reigned over them, and became the head of robbers; and make F19 him to be the little horn in ( Daniel 7:8 ) and wickedly and maliciously sayF20 he was Jesus; and yet, under all this wickedness, they tacitly own that Jesus of Nazareth is the Netzer this prophecy speaks of; the design of which is to show the meanness of Christ’s descent as man, and that he should be as a root out of a dry ground, ( Isaiah 53:2 ) or rather as a rod and branch out of a dry root.

Isaiah 11:2

And the Spirit of the Lord

Will Rest on Him

The rod and branch,

the King Messiah, so qualifying him for his office, and the discharge of it. This shows that Christ’s kingdom is of a spiritual nature, and administered in a spiritual manner, for which he was abundantly furnished by the “Spirit of the Lord” resting on him; by whom is meant the third Person in the Trinity, so called, not because created by him, for not any created spirit is meant, but because he proceeded from him; he is the one Jehovah with him, a divine Person, truly God, yet distinct both from the Father and the Son; so that here is a clear proof of the trinity of Persons. Christ was filled with the Spirit from the womb, and he descended and rested upon him at his baptism; he was anointed with him to be Prophet, Priest, and King, and received his gifts and graces from him without measure, which abide with him, and are designed in the following words:

the spirit of wisdom and understanding;
which appeared in his disputation with the doctors; in his answers to the ensnaring questions of the Scribes and Pharisees; in the whole of his ministry; and in his conduct at his apprehension, trial, condemnation, and death; as also in the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding he imparted to his disciples, and does more or less to all his people:

the spirit of counsel and might;
of “counsel”, which fitted him to be the wonderful Counsellor, and qualified him to give suitable and proper advice to the sons of men; and of “might” or “power”, to preach the Gospel with authority; do miracles in the confirmation of it; bear the sins of his people, and the punishment due to them; obtain eternal redemption for them; and engage with all their enemies and conquer them:

the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord;
and so as man had the “knowledge” of God the Father; of his mind and will; of the Scriptures, and things contained therein; of the law and Gospel; all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge were hid in him, which he communicates to his saints; and “of the fear of the Lord”, and so had a reverence of him, a strict regard to his will, and always did the things which pleased him; see (Hebrews 5:7 ) this verse is also applied to the Messiah, both by ancient and modern Jews F21.

Question: “What are the seven spirits of God?”

Answer: The “seven spirits of God” are mentioned inRevelation 1:4;3:1;4:5; and5:6.

The seven spirits of God are not specifically identified, so it’s impossible to be dogmatic.

Revelation 1:4 mentions that the seven spirits are before God’s throne.

Revelation 3:1 indicates that Jesus Christ “holds” the seven spirits of God.

Revelation 4:5 links the seven spirits of God with seven burning lamps that are before God’s throne.

Revelation 5:6 identifies the seven spirits with the “seven eyes” of the Lamb

and states that they are “sent out into all the earth.”

There are at least three possible interpretations of the seven spirits of God.

The first is that the seven spirits of God are symbolic of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible, and especially the book of Revelation, uses the number to refer to perfection and completion.

If that is the meaning of the “seven” in the “seven spirits,”

then it is not referring to seven different spirits of God,

but rather the perfect and complete Holy Spirit.

The second view is that the seven spirits of God refer to seven angelic beings,

possibly the seraphim or the cherubim.

This would fit with the numerous others angelic beings

that are described in the book of Revelation (Revelation 4:6-9;5:6-14;19:4-5).

A third possibility is based onIsaiah 11:2, which says,

“The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him

— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and of power,

the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”

This could possibly explain the seven spirits of God:

(1) Spirit of the LORD,

(2) Spirit of wisdom,

(3) Spirit of understanding,

(4) Spirit of counsel,

(5) Spirit of power,

(6) Spirit of knowledge,

(7) Spirit of the fear of the Lord.

The Bible doesn’t tell us specifically who/what the seven spirits are,

but the first interpretation, that they are the Holy Spirit,

seems the most likely.

as

The Holy Spirit,

Rebukes, Warns

or Encourages the churches.

“He that has an ear,

let him hear what The Spirit

Says to the churches”

(Revelation 2:17, 29, and 3:13).

  a. In the Scriptures

(letters to the churches),

The Holy Spirit,

is Carrying on His Ministry

of Governing the churches.

 b. Each letter is Authoritative

because it is the Voice of

The Holy Spirit,

to the churches.

      …

II. THE HOLY SPIRIT

EQUIPS HIS CHURCHES.

      A. Churches Today

Must Function

through

Human Instrumentality.

1. The Holy Spirit,

calls men into this body

(l Corinthians 12:13, 18).

2. The Holy Spirit,

gives the needed Spiritual Gifts to them

to enable them

in the work of the Lord

(l Corinthians 12:23-24).

   …

   B. The Holy Spirit,

Gives the Word of God To His Churches.

1. The Christian is compared to a soldier

(Ephesians 6).

a. Defensive implements are mentioned.

   b. One offensive weapon is mentioned

– the Word of God

(Ephesians 6:17 and Hebrews 4:12).

2. From the Word,

churches draw their instruction,

creed, interpretation, practices, and all else.

   …

   C. The Holy Spirit,

Gives the Diversity of Necessary Gifts

(Ephesians 4:8, 11-16).

1. The officers mentioned are gifts from God.

2. See also I Corinthians 12:10, 28-30.

3. Without the varied gifts,

the body would fail and fall apart.

   …

   D. The Holy Spirit,

Aids the Churches

In Their Worship of God.

1. The Holy Spirit,

Assists in Prayers, Praise, Adoration,

and Thanksgiving

(John 4:23-24).

2. See Ephesians 5:18-20, 6:18;

Colossians 3:l6;

and Romans 8:26.

1.0.0.2b: ALARM: What ‘Moved’ GOD to Predestinate His Elect to “The Praise of The Glory of His Grace?”

AWARE of The GODHEAD 1.0 Intro-2b:

What ‘Moved’ GOD

to Predestinate His Elect

to

“The Praise

of The Glory of His Grace?”

God Simply Created,

to Manifest His Glory.

Do some of our readers imagine

that we have gone beyond

what Scripture warrants?

Then we appeal to the Law

and the Testimony:

“Stand up

and

Bless the LORD,

your God,

Forever and Ever;

“and

Blessed be

Your Glorious Name,

which is Exalted

above all Blessing

and Praise”

(Nehemiah 9:5).

God is No Gainer

even from our Worship.

He was in No Need

of that

External Glory of His Grace

which Arises from His Redeemed,

for He is Glorious enough in Himself

without us.

What was it that moved Him

to

Predestinate His elect

to the Praise of the Glory

of His Grace?

GOD ALMIGHTY

Predestinated His elect

to the Praise of the Glory

of His Grace

“According to the Good Pleasure

of His Will”

(Ephesians 1:5).

We are well aware

that the High Ground we tread here

is new and strange

to almost all of our readers,

so it is well to move slowly.

Let us appeal

again to the Scriptures.

As the Apostle brings to a close

a long argument on Salvation

by GOD’S ALMIGHTY

Sovereign Grace,

he asks,

“For who has known

the mind of the LORD?

Or who has been

His counselor?

“Or who has first given to Him,

and it will be

returned back to him again?

( from God )

(Romans 11:34-35).

The force of this

is that it is impossible

to bring the Almighty under Obligation

to the Created creature.

God Gains Nothing from us.

“If you are Righteous,

what did you give to Him?

“Or what did GOD Receive

from your hand?

“Your wickedness may hurt a man

as you are;

and your Righteousness

may Profit the son of man”

(Job 35:7-8).

But it certainly cannot Affect God,

who is All-Blessed in Himself.

“When you have done all those things

which are Commanded you,

say,

We are unprofitable servants”

(Luke 17:10)

Our obedience has profited nothing.

our obedience has profited nothing,

as far as the ‘suggestion’ of ‘our obedience’

having “added anything to God”, you see.

Filed under ( 1.0- 1.16 ) INTRODUCTION to The ETERNAL EXISTENCE of The GODHEAD.

0.0.9 ALARM: INTRODUCTION: The Distinction Between Free Will and Free Agency.

THERE is

A  TOTAL INABILITY

for a NATURALLY BORN HUMAN

to ‘COME TO’ or ‘RELATE TO’ GOD,

APART FROM THE NEW BIRTH:

FALLEN HUMAN BEINGS

ARE BOTH FREE in their ‘WILL’

AND ENSLAVED

to THAT SAME FREE ‘WILL’,

THAT ‘WILL’ NEVER CHOSE GOD,

UNLESS GOD ALMIGHTY, FIRST,

RENEWS THE LOST SOUL to ETERNAL LIFE.

BY J.I. PACKER

“The heart is deceitful

above all things

and beyond cure.

Who can understand it?”

JEREMIAH 17:9

Clear thought about the fallen human condition

requires a distinction between

what has been called ‘free will’,

since the start of Christianity.

and for the past two centuries

has been called ‘free agency’.

‘Free agency’

is a characteristic of human beings

in that:

All humans

ARE MORALLY RESPONSIBLE to GOD

when we make our own decisions

as to what we will do,

choosing as we please

in the light of our individual sense

of ‘right and wrong’

and the inclinations we feel.

Thus we are all are Moral Agents,

Answerable to God

and to each other for our voluntary choices.

 Adam was

MORALLY RESPONSIBLE to GOD

when he made his own decisions

as to what he would do,

both before and after he sinned;

We are all are Moral Agents,

Answerable to God

and so are The Glorified Saints

( ‘Saved’ souls,

who Have Experienced

The New, SPIRITUAL, Birth,

from Above)

who are Confirmed in Grace

( by That Activity of God

in Saving their soul,

by which they Become

“Partakers of

The Divine Nature”

and are

“Sealed, unto

The Day of Redemption”)

in such a sense that

they are still

Living in their ‘Old Nature’ of Flesh

and yet Possess

a New SPIRITUAL Nature,

which is no longer Capable of sin,

because

their New SPIRITUAL NATURE

is DIVINE.

Once,

The SPIRITUALLY

Born Again soul,

Leaves this Life,

their New,

SPIRITUALLY BORN AGAIN SOUL

still Contains The Divine Nature,

with the Inability to sin.

 That Inability to sin Will Be

One of the Delights and Glories of Heaven,

but it will not terminate anyone’s humanness;

Glorified Saints Will Still make choices

in accordance with their New Nature,

and those choices will all still be

 the product of human ‘free agency’

even thou, IN THAT ‘ETERNAL DAY’,

those choices Glorified Saints Will Make

will always be Good and Right.

‘Free will’, however,

has been defined

by Christian teachers

from The Second Century on

as ‘the ability to choose

all the moral options that a situation offers’,

and Augustine affirmed against Pelagius

and most of the Greek Fathers,

since original sin

has robbed us of ‘Free will’

in this sense, of ‘the ability to choose

all the moral options that a situation offers’.

Therefore, since original sin

has robbed us of ‘Free will’

in this sense

of saying ‘Free will’ would be

‘the ability to choose

all the moral options that a situation offers’,

we have NO natural ability

to Discern and Choose God’s Way,

We have NO natural ability

to Discern and Choose God’s Way,

because we have

no natural inclination Godward;

our hearts are in bondage to sin,

and only The Grace of Regeneration

can,

SPIRITUALLY,

free us from that slavery

to our Natural Nature, of ‘sin’,

and, our Natural Nature’ to sin’.

This, for substance,

was what Paul taught in Romans 6:16-23;

16 “Do you not know,

that to whom you yield yourselves

servants to obey,

his servants you are

whom you obey;

whether of sin unto death,

or of Obedience

unto Righteousness?

 17But God Be Thanked,

that whereas you were

the servants of sin,”

( in your Natural flesh )

“you have”

( Been Made

SPIRITUALLY ABLE

and)

“obeyed from the heart

that”

(Spiritual) “Form of Doctrine

which was Delivered to you”

(Spiritually,

by THE NEW BIRTH).

 18 “Being, then,

Made Free from sin,”

(Spiritually,

by THE NEW BIRTH)

“you”

 ( the Saved Individual)

“became the”

(Spiritual)

“Servants of Righteousness.”

 19 “I speak after the manner of men

because of

the infirmity of your flesh;

because as you have

yielded your members

servants to uncleanness

and

to iniquity unto iniquity,”

( prior to your Spiritual New Birth,

while in your Natural flesh )

“even so now”

(Spiritually)

“Yield your members”

(Spiritual)

“Servants to Righteousness

unto Holiness.

 20 “Because when you were

the servants of sin,”

( prior to your Spiritual New Birth,

while in your Natural flesh )

“you were free from”

(Spiritual) Righteousness”.

 21What” (Spiritual) “fruit

did you have then

in those things for which

you are now ashamed?

Because

the end of those things is death.

 22But now

Being Made Free”

(Spiritually)

“from sin,

and Become Servants to God,

you have your”

(Spiritual) fruit unto holiness,

and the end Everlasting Life.

 23 “Because the wages of sin is death,

but The” (Spiritual)

“Gift of God is Eternal Life

through Jesus Christ,

our Lord”.

Only THE SPIRITUALLY FREED WILL

(Paul says, the Spiritually Freed person)

Freely and heartily chooses Righteousness,

SPIRITUALLY.

Only THE SPIRITUALLY FREED WILL

Has The SPIRITUAL CAPABILITY

to Have

A permanent Love of Righteousness—

that is,

a SPIRITUAL Inclination of heart

to the SPIRITUAL Way of Living

that Pleases God—

THE SPIRITUALLY FREED WILL

that

Has The SPIRITUAL CAPABILITY

to Have

A permanent Love of Righteousness—

is one aspect of

The SPIRITUAL Freedom

that Jesus Christ Gives

as we see, in John 8:34-36;

 & Galatians 5:1, 13.

John 8:34;

Jesus Answered them,

Verily, verily, I Say to you,

Whosoever committeth sin

is the servant of sin.

 35And the servant

abideth not in the house forever;

 but the Son Abideth Ever.

 36 “If the Son, therefore,

Will Make you Free,

you Wi Bell Free Indeed.”

Galatians 5:1;

Stand fast, therefore,

in the” (SPIRITUAL) “Liberty

wherewith

 Christ Has Made us Free,

and

be not entangled again

with the yoke of bondage.”

13 “Because brethren,

you Have Been Called to”

(SPIRITUAL) Liberty;

only do not use Liberty

for an occasion to the flesh,

but by Love Serve one another”

(SPIRITUALLY).

It is worth observing that

‘will’ is an abstraction.

My ‘will’ is not a part of me

which I choose to move or not to move,

like my hand or my foot;

My ‘will’ is precisely me choosing to act

and then going into action.

The truth about ‘free agency’,

and about Jesus Christ

‘Freeing sin’s slave

from sin’s dominion’,

can be expressed more clearly

if the word ‘will’ is dropped

and each person says:

I am a free agent,

in my Natural

FLESH NATURE

that

ONLY HAS THE ABILITY

TO SIN,

however, I am

a CREATED SOUL;

and Morally Responsible, to

A SINLESS, HOLY,

PERFECT GOD.

I am the slave of sin

whom

Jesus Christ must Liberate;

I am a fallen, sin-cursed, being

who Only has the capability

in my Natural Created soul,

TO SIN AGAINST GOD

and to

BE THE ENEMY of GOD

and to always choose

to DO NOTHING BUT

sin Against God,

until

God Renews my heart,

to

a NEW SPIRITUAL CREATION.

AWARE of The GODHEAD

 0.3b.I.2

“The LORD your God

Has Chosen you

to be a Special People to Himself,

above all people

that are upon

the Face of the Earth”.

  …

It certainly seems revolting,

and repulsive,

to the Teachings of God’s Decrees

and

Almighty Determinations

for the sin-weakened,

mind of “men”

to

be tempted to

imply ‘hypocrisy’ and ‘guile’,

when they suggest

God would like to:

“Passionately Wish”

the Salvation of some people

‘whom the Scriptures Says’

are a group of sinners

who were

not Elected by God,

but were Rejected by God,

and

that God had Given Up

to that very same

God-hating Mind,

and

who are Vessels of Wrath

Suited and Prepared

for Eternal Destruction,

and

who are never eventually Saved.

However no one will say,

that the people whose good welfare

are Vehemently Desired by God

in this Passage of Scripture

were that group of sinners

who were

not Elected by God,

and were Rejected by God,

where The Bible,

in our text, Says,

“O that they had such a heart

in them

that they would Fear Me,

and

Keep all My Commandments

always…”

0.3b.I.3

These Particular people

are the most improper example

that could have been advanced

since these Individuals

were a Peculiar People to the Lord,

whom He Had Chosen

to be a Special people to Himself,

above all people

upon the Face of the Earth

Deuteronomy 7:6;

“because you are

 an Holy People

to The LORD your God:

The LORD your God

Has Chosen you

to be a Special People

to Himself,

above all people

that are upon

the Face of the Earth”.

0.3b.II

II.  These Passionate Wishes

of God Expressed here;

“O that they had such a heart

in them

that they would Fear Me,

and

Keep all My Commandments

always…”

where God Vehemently Desires

the good welfare for these people

are also said by those who oppose

The Doctrine

of Particular Redemption,

to represent some instance

of ‘God’ being

 full of ‘guile’, ‘deceit’, ‘insincerity’,

‘dissimulation’, and ‘hypocrisy’;

to which we answer:

0.3b.II.1

The Doctrine

of Particular Redemption

is

The Doctrinal Teaching

of The Scriptures.

Jesus Christ

DID NOT Die

for all Individuals.

Jesus Christ

Died for Only Some.

who are Called His people,

His sheep,

unless all Individuals

can be thought to be the People,

and sheep, of Jesus Christ.

0.3b.II.2

 This blasphemous charge

“of guile, deceit, insincerity,

dissimulation, and hypocrisy”,

ought to be removed from God,

Who cannot lie,

deceive, dissemble,

or deny Himself.

Almighty Jehovah God

is a God of Truth,

and without iniquity;

Just and Right is He.

0.3b.II.3

Nor,

Does such a ‘Passionate Wish’

God Expressed here;

“O that they had such a heart

in them

that they would Fear Me,

and

Keep all My Commandments

always…”

for the Good of these people,

whom God had so Great a Regard

that God Delievered them

from Egyptian bondage,

imply anything of this nature,

of the blasphemous charge

against The Lord God

“of guile, deceit, insincerity,

dissimulation, and hypocrisy”,

by those opposing

The Doctrine

of Particular Redemption

because

as has been observed

in answer to former question,

we have a need to back up,

BEFORE THE ACCUSATION

is MADE

it ought to be proved,

that God

has ever used such

Expressions of Desire

for the Salvation of all mankind,

(?????)

and particularly of such

who are not Saved;

among whom

no one will include

these people of Israel,

especially since it is said

in Romans 11:26,

that

all Israel Will Be Saved”,

of course Meaning,

“All SPIRITUAL ISRAEL

that Have Been Chosen

Will Be Saved”,

i.e., “ALL THE ELECT”.

0.3b.II.4

And,

 After all, these words;

“O that they had such a heart

in them

that they would Fear Me,

and

Keep all My Commandments

always…”

Do Not express

God’s Desire

for their Eternal Salvation,

but only of their

temporal good and welfare,

and that of their posterity.

Because their Eternal Salvation

was not to be Obtained

by

‘Works of Righteousness

done by them’,

by their ‘Fear’ or ‘Worship of God’,

or by their constant

‘universal obedience’

to His Commands.

They were Saved

by the Grace of

The Lord Jesus Christ,

even as we are.

Their Fear of God,

and Obedience to His Will,

did indeed result

in their Temporal Prosperity,

and as The Consequence

of GOD’S DESIRE for THEM

that Temporal Prosperity

was Gratefully Received

and Tremendously

Enjoyed by them.

The Fear of God,

and Obedience to His Will,

by these Chosen children of God,

as The Consequence

of GOD’S DESIRE for THEM,

Resulted in Temporal Prosperity,

that they might Live,

and

that it be Well with them,

and that their days

were Extended in the land

they were going to Possess,

as appears from verse 33;

Deuteronomy 5:33;

“You Will Walk in All the Ways

which The LORD your God

Has Commanded you,

that you may Live,

and

that it may be Well with you,

and that

you may Prolong your days

in the land

which you Will Possess”

and

with a view to how

God Had so Strongly Desired

these Things for them,

and

for these Things

to be Done by them,

we simply see

God Blessing His children

that they might Live,

and

that it be Well with them,

and that their days

were Extended in the land

they were going to Possess.”
